FCT, Abuja - The National Examination Council (NECO) released the 2024 common entrance examination results for Unity schools.
The minister of state for education, Dr Yusuf Sununu, disclosed this during a press briefing about the outcome of the examinations on Tuesday, July 16.
According to The Punch, Sununu said a total of 4,360 candidates were absent while 66,931 were present.
The minister disclosed that one candidate scored the highest score of 203 out of the obtainable score of 210.
71,291 candidates participated in the 2024 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) conducted in 599 centres on Saturday, June 1, 2024.
Sununu said the admission requirements are 60 per cent merit, 30 per cent equality of state and 10 per cent exigency, Vanguard reports.
“Out of the maximum obtainable score of 210, one candidate obtained the highest score of 203, while 13 candidates obtained the lowest score of one.
“This year, an unprecedented number of 52 candidates (two candidates from Lagos State and 50 candidates from Rivers State) were involved in examination malpractice."
Legit.ng reports that the release of the results will set the stage for admission into the 110 unity schools including special schools for the gifted across the country.
Federal govt increases tuition fees of unity schools
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the federal ministry of education announced the increment of school fees for new students into Federal government colleges otherwise known as Federal Unity Colleges.
According to a circular entitled, “Approved fees/ charges for Federal Unity Colleges (1st Term) for new students “and signed by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Hajia Binta, new students are expected to part with ₦100,000 instead of the previous N45,000.
The memo was dated 25th May 2023 and addressed to all Principals of Federal Unity Colleges. The directive is contained in a circular with reference number ADF/120/DSSE/I and addressed to all Principals of Federal Unity Colleges.
