The Federal Scholarship Board (FSB), a Department in the Federal Ministry of Education, has granted #2.4m scholarship at N150, 000.00 each per session to 16 undergraduates of the Federal University Oye Ekiti following their excellent performance at the Federal Government’s prescribed Computer Based Test (CBT). They were, however, awarded #150, 000 each to cover one academic calendar.
The presentation of the scholarship award was carried out at FUOYE’s Vice-Chancellor Conference room by a representative of the Scholarship Board, Mallam Abdulkareem Gaminana.
Gaminana said the students secured the scholarship after passing the prescribed Computer Based Test organized by the Board.
He said: “The qualification for the annual scholarship entry is a minimum CGPA of 4.00. The beneficiaries would continue to enjoy the scheme throughout the period of their studies.
“The Board would be doing continuous verification of the student status of the beneficiaries on yearly basis before the benefit for each session could be released.”
Besides, Gaminana added that the Nigerian scholarship was opened to Postgraduate students, with Masters students entitled to three hundred thousand naira (N300, 000.00) while PhD students, three hundred and eighty thousand naira (N380,000.00) per session for a maximum of two sessions.
While presenting the scholarship letters to the beneficiaries, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, congratulated the students for doing the University proud, stressing that the award was a reflection of their assiduousness and commitment to studies.
He also expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Federal Ministry of Education for providing the scholarship opportunity and stressed the determination of the University to continue to nurture young talents who did the nation proud.
The VC, however, appealed to the Scholarship Board to extend the same gesture to other spheres of education especially special innovation scholarship for innovative students across faculties, saying the scholarship should not be for Education students only.
The Vice-Chancellor further appealed that the number of FUOYE students for the scholarship award should be increased as FUOYE was the 5th most sought-after university by admission seekers in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Professor Fasina urged the beneficiaries to continue to do the University proud by showing excellent commitment to their studies as the University would continue to provide enabling environment for students to excel.
Earlier, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Education Federal University Oye Ekiti, Dr.O.M. Bankole, in her remarks said “I want to thank the management of this institution for given our students an enabling environment to showcase their ability.
“I am pleased to introduce to you, Mr Vice- Chancellor, our sixteen (16) students. They are in good academic standing and they have been selected for an award.”
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Adejimi Oluwatobi Busuyi of the department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Education said, “we are very grateful to God Almighty for this day and the opportunity because this scholarship means a lot to us, as students of this great citadel of learning and on behalf of 16 of us, I want to say a very thank you to the Federal government of Nigeria for this opportunity and for putting in place such a programme for students and as well appreciate the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina and his team for providing us the chance to partake in this scholarship programme. “Mr. Vice-Chancellor, thank you for this once in a life time opportunity and to our Dean and the University, for offering us the opportunity and promised to continue to work hard and do the University and our families so proud.”
