- The University Public Relations Officer, John Agam, said the institution has put security measures in place to ensure the safety and protection of staff and students.
- The security measures became necessary after gunmen attacked communities in three Local Government Areas and killed over 150 residents
Plateau state, Bokkos - The Plateau State University, Bokkos has tightened its security to protect students and staff members after gunmen attacked 25 communities in the state.
The University Public Relations Officer, John Agam, disclosed this in a statement while announcing the resumption of academic activities after the Christmas and New Year break, The Punch reported.
According to the statement, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Matur Malau Bernard was quoted to have said:
“While assuring members of the University community that far-reaching measures have been taken to address the security situation in and around the university, management has deployed a detachment of the Special Task Force of Operation Safe Haven Bokkos Area Command, siting of the Police Station around the university, deployment of operatives of the Civil Defence Corp, and recruitment of members of the hunters association of Nigeria and recent training on security operations for the internal security of the University, all to beef up security on the campus.
Police arrest 8 suspects over Plateau Killings
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the apprehension of eight individuals linked to the recent violence in the Bokkos and Barkin Ladi local government areas.
The incidents resulted in over 150 confirmed fatalities and extensive destruction of numerous homes.
According to reports, on Christmas Eve, approximately 23 villages in Bokkos were targeted, leading to the burning down of hundreds of houses.
Angry women burn down Plateau monarch’s house
Meanwhile, in the aftermath of recent attacks in Bokkos LGA in Plateau state faced another major unrest.
On Friday morning, angry women did the unthinkable to a district head in the area, accusing him of betrayal.
The protesting women expressed their discontent over community arrests in connection with the recent attacks.

Legit.ng also reported that assailants unleashed coordinated attacks on Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi local government areas of Plateau state, resulting in the deaths of at least 76 people.
The Transition Implementation Committee chairman of the Bokkos area, Monday Kasa, disclosed that the coordinated attacks occurred on Saturday, December 23, and lasted into Christmas Eve, December 24, when residents were already in the festive mood.
The local government boss explained further to Channels TV that the casualty figures were increasing as more dead bodies were recovered by the team of security personnel.
