100-level TASU student dies as fire guts female hostel

A fire outbreak that occurred at a female hostel at the Taraba State University, claimed the life of a 100-level student identified as Emoseh Lawi, of the Department of Tourism. 

The incident occurred at Zenith Hostel on Friday night, December 10, when Lawi was sleeping after returning from night class where she had gone to read throughout the night in preparation for the school's upcoming exam.

She was said to have been unaware of the fire outbreak when it occurred and her fellow student had to force her room door open, pull her out. She was found unconscious and unable to stand before being rushed to the state specialist hospital where she was confirmed dead. 

According to an eyewitness, the cause of the fire was from an electrical socket that sparked repeatedly and suddenly gutted the mattress next to it from which it spread all over. The fire which affected some parts of the hostel damaged property and other valuables.
